Among all the specialties of our Lab, there’s the eagerness to meet other creative realities all over Europe and the world. Here’s how our new section Creative Xover is born – based on some meetings dedicated to the sinergy and opinions exchange with experts who can enrich our knowledge and cultural background.
On Friday, February 15th, it was the turn of Stuart Hobday, director of the Norwich Arts Centre, who told us about his professional path and the initiatives active in the United Kingdom to promote and develop the area through culture and creativity.

Norwich Arts Centre is a multipurpose place where artists meet everyday, comedians, musicians, painters and more, but it has also a Café where everybody can meet and share experiences. NAC is also responsible for the Norwich Sound + Vision, a musical and visual festival dedicated to all the rising artists. Events like this are important because they bring positive feedback for the tourism, an instrument to increase the economy of the hosting country. Norwich Arts Centre is also responsible for the program Escalator Music who helps young and non-professional musician to make their way in the industry. Key aspect of the program is the interaction with professional music players who can help the youngest artists to improve and get better.
Stuart Hobday is also involved in the Millennium Experience project to re-evaluate the the Millennium dome, that everybody knows now as the O2 Arena. The Arena is a location for many events, mostly music and sports, and has a capacity of 20.000 people. The O2 is a great example of type of placemaking that can be used to improve the territory: North Greenwich, where the arena is based, was a polluted area before so it wasn’t considered good.

Meeting a professional such as Stuart Hobday was a great opportunity for our team, all our doubts and questions found some very positive answers. His partecipation strenghtened the paths that Creactivitas was already following: culture as an active development engine in the country. As they already do in the UK, also in Italy we have to learn to “use” culture and creativity to improve the city. We thank Stuart Hobday for this precious contribution, hoping to meet him again and start common projects.
